In the 21st century, our society finally seems to appreciate the contributions of women composers and artists on a scale comparable to men. I am very excited to be able to present you with a program focused on women composers and soloists. We will play music by Baroque era French composer Elisabeth de la Guerre, who was the first woman to compose lull length opera, music by Polish artist Graiyna Bacewicz, who is often described as the most important European woman composer of the 20th century as well as works by contemporary American artist Kathryn Bostic. Ms. Bostic, who is known for her work for film, TV and theatre will appear with our orchestra in a triple role, as composer, pianist and vocalist. Many works on that program will receive their East Coast premier, so please make sure you don't miss this very special event!
Our orchestra maintains its involvement with the local community by collaborating with local schools and providing special services to our senior citizens. We greatly appreciate our audience and donors' support and look forward to another exciting season.
I hope to see all of you on our next downbeat!
Sincerely,
Mariusz Smolij
