Concert Under the Stars 2026
It takes more than a sudden summer downpour to dampen the spirit of Bucks County, especially when a historic national milestone is on the horizon.
On Saturday evening, June 27, 2026, a week prior to Independence Day, hundreds of residents and county visitors gathered on Tinicum Park’s expansive lawn for the 36th annual “Concert Under the Stars.” While this beloved local tradition always draws an enthusiastic crowd, this year’s event carried a palpable energy; Reports the Bucks County Herald
The Philly Fife and Drum Company, dressed as authentic Continental soldiers from the American Revolution, played several well-received historic rhythms before the orchestra began the main performance of the evening, which began with a soaring rendition of the national anthem performed by mezzo soprano Mathida Smolij whose powerful delivery brought the crowd to its feet.
Riverside Symphonia took center stage under the seasoned baton of Maestro Mariusz Smolij, who has led the ensemble for three decades. To honor the nation’s landmark anniversary, Smolij crafted a clever repertoire that perfectly balanced symphonic grandeur with accessible American classics.
The orchestra opened with John Williams’ commanding "Liberty Fanfare," establishing a sense of historic weight. The program then shifted through genres, treating the audience to a nostalgic "Gershwin by George" medley — with the iconic clarinet lines of "Rhapsody in Blue" and "Summertime" — before diving into crowd-pleasing Broadway staples from "Cabaret" and "There's No Business Like Show Business." The popular musical program encouraged some spontaneous fancy footwork by many on the great lawn.
As twilight deepened into night, the program built to its traditional symphonic climax. "Amazing Grace" gave way to the thunderous rhythms of the "1812 Overture" and the brassy perfection of John Philip Sousa's "The Stars and Stripes Forever."
Right on schedule, the night sky erupted into the Symphonia's synchronized 20-minute fireworks display. In tune with the special significance of this 250th national anniversary, the pyrotechnics seemed to reach a climax several times over, unleashing successive waves of intense, multi-layered bursts that felt like multiple grand finales, capping off a night where music and history took center stage.
For those in attendance, the night was an important reminder of what can happen when a community tunes out the noise, weathers the storm and comes together to celebrate in perfect harmony.
